Optical fiber Cable:
Optical fiber cable consists of two parts. The center is called the core, the
outer layer is called the cladding. The refractive index of the core is higher
than that of the cladding. The effect of this arrangement is that when an
optical ray is propagated at an angle to the axis of the cable, it is reflected
back at the boundary between the core and the cladding, and thereby
transmitted longitudinally through the core.

There are three kinds of optical fiber:
a) All-plastic fiber (APF)
b) Plastic-cladding silica Fiber (PCF)
c) Silica fiber
APF is used for short-distance data transmission. Both the core and the
cladding are made of plastic. PCF, which is used for middle distance
transmission, has silica core and plastic cladding.Silica fiber is used for longdistance transmission. Both the core and the cladding are made of silica.
